With slender tapering blade of hexagonal section with short fuller on each side of the forte stamped 'Monterei' between scrolls and extended on to the rectangular ricasso, the hilt with straight quillons terminating in buttons, knuckle-guard en suite and interrupted by a baluster moulding, compressed bifurcated pommel chiselled in relief in the Brescian manner, and later spirally fluted grip bound with twisted steel and copper wire between Turks' heads, the asymmetrical cup divided into four panels, the two at the sides each composed of five slender concentric bars, the remaining two pierced and chiselled with foliate scrolls bearing fruit and flower-heads, the larger panel with a dolphin at its base and the smaller one (minor old repair) enclosing a central oval medallion engraved with a fortification, birds and trees, the guardapolvo pierced and chiselled with masks, scrolls, fruit and flower-heads
