An Italian Stiletto
Mid-17th Century

With sharply tapering blade of stiff triangular section with moulded baluster ricasso, iron hilt (light pitting) comprising straight flattened quillons widening towards the tips, small side-ring, small faceted fig-shaped pommel with button, and slightly swelling grip bound with twisted iron wire, in later wooden scabbard covered in dark purple velvet (damaged) with iron locket and chape, the former horizontally fluted on the outside and with a suspension loop on the inside, the latter with finial en suite with the pommel
