A Very Fine Dutch Silver-Mounted Hanger
Third Quarter Of The 17th Century

With slender curved single-edged blade double-edged at the point, retaining its burnished finish throughout, and deeply struck with a crescent moon mark on each side of the forte, the hilt comprising short vertically recurved quillons each cast and chased as a scaly winged monster in the round, springing from a central block cast and chased with a grotesque mask in relief on each side above a short langet chased with scrolling foliage on a punched ground, hollow pommel in the form of a monster-head, and wooden grip spirally bound with twisted silver wire and ribbon, in its 18th century vellum-covered scabbard with chased silver mounts, the middle mount with suspension ring
