Third Quarter Of The 17th Century, Dutch Or English, Silver Maker's Mark WC In A Shield
With straight tapering double-edged blade made in three-stages, guard of short slightly arched quillons with bulbous tips cast as monster-heads springing from a central block, all finely pierced and chased with scrolling foliage inhabited by grotesques, tapering fluted wooden grip of near rectangular section with rounded top, deep collar chased with designs en suite with the quillon-block, and silver tang-button centred on a rosette-shaped washer (incomplete), in 18th century leather scabbard retaining the original locket decorated en suite with the hilt and with pierced and chased hook, and later chape
