An Unusual English Silver-Mounted Hanger
London Silver Hallmarks For 1697, Indistinct Maker's Mark

With tapering blade (some rust patination) adapted from a back-sword blade and double-edged at the sharply tapering point, fullered and with a series of piercings along the back on each side, the forte stamped 'M.A.R.I.A.' between cross marks on one side and 'G.I.E.S.V.' along the other, hilt of similar form to the last, the rear quillon terminal, knuckle-guard, pommel-cap and basal ferrule chased with foliage and set with filigree florets on each side, and natural buckhorn grip
