A Cased Pair Of 32-Bore Flintlock Duelling Pistols
By G. Davison, Alnwick, No. 412, Circa 1825

With heavy rebrowned twist barrels with silver fore-sights (one missing), recessed patent breeches each with rectangular gold-lined maker's stamp, gold line and platinum-lined touch-hole, tangs each incorporating a back-sight and finely engraved with foliage and a martial trophy, signed border engraved flat bevelled detented locks each decorated with a starburst behind the rainproof pan and with foliage at the stepped tail, safety-catch behind the engraved cock (one top jaw and screw old replacements), and ramp on the blued steel spring bearing against a roller on the steel (one chipped), figured half-stock (minor repair, one bruised in front of the trigger-guard finial), chequered swelling rounded butts each with circular silver butt cap numbered '1' and '2' respectively, steel trigger-guards each retaining much original blueing and signed within a panel against a martial trophy and foliage on the bow, trigger-plates each with pineapple finial, horn fore-end caps, and original horn-tipped ramrods: in original fitted brass-mounted mahogany case (minor damage along front inner edge) lined with plum velvet with some accessories including brass-mounted three-way flask, the interior of the lid with illustrated maker's trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle centred on a circular brass escutcheon engraved with original owner's details 'John Blenkinsop, Middleton, Leeds', Birmingham proof marks
