With three-stage cannon barrel, foliate engraved breech inscribed 'London' along the top, waisted foliate engraved tang, border engraved action signed beneath the steel-spring, trigger-guard engraved with a flower-head, swelling figured butt (split at the tang) carved with a shell in relief behind the barrel tang, cast and chased mounts comprising trophy of arms side-plate (secured by an old nail at the rear) and vacant escutcheon, and grotesque mask butt (iron parts with minor rust patination), London proof marks and maker's mark, indistinct silver maker's mark, probably of Jeconiah Ashley

Richard 1 Wilson was elected Master of the Gunmakers' Company in 1741. He was Contractor to Ordnance from 1746, the East India Company between 1733-6, and to the Hudsons Bay Company and the Royal African Company in 1739. He died in 1766
