An English Brass-Hilted Hunting Hanger
Late 17th Century

With slightly curved blade (some pitting) double-edged at the point and fullered along the back on each side, hilt comprising rear quillon with rounded terminal cast and chased on one side with a running stag and on the other with a human bust, engraved quillon-block, knuckle-guard cast with human busts and hounds chasing a stag on one side, a hare on the other, and foliate terminal hooked into the pommel-cap, the latter with masks and foliage centred on the button, and natural buckhorn grip with brass basal ferrule chased with foliage
