With case-hardened turn-off sighted barrels numbered '0' to '1' at the breeches, foliate engraved case-hardened actions each signed on the left side and incorporating a back-sight, blued folding triggers, finely chequered figured rounded butts, vacant white-metal escutcheons, and much of their original finish: in original fitted mahogany case lined in blue velvet with some accessories including brass-mounted flask, the interior of the lid with illustrated maker's trade label, the exterior with vacant circular brass escutcheon, Birmingham proof marks

John 1 Blanch was apprenticed to Jackson Mortimer whose daughter, Anne, he married in 1809 the year he established his business. He worked first for John Manton and then in partnership with his father-in-law as Mortimer & Blanch. He was elected Master of the Gunmakers' Company in 1834 and is recorded as John Blanch & Son at 29 Gracechurch Street between 1848-1914
