A Pair Of 40-Bore Percussion Target Or Duelling Pistols
Mid-19th Century

With rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrels each swamped at the muzzle and engraved 'Liverpool' in gothic letters along the top flat, lightly engraved breeches each with four platinum lines, engraved platinum plugs, foliate engraved tangs each incorporating a back-sight, foliate engraved detented back-action locks each with very faint traces of maker's signature, perhaps Patrick, ebonised half-stocks (repairs) with chequered rounded butts and flat ovoidal pommels, the last each encircled by an engraved silver band and with large vacant white-metal escutcheon, steel spur trigger-guards each with pineapple finial and engraved with foliage on the bow, silver escutcheons engraved with owner's crest and motto, white-metal fore-end caps, set triggers, and brass-tipped ramrods, probably original, one with powder-measure (in restored condition, steel parts with some pitting), Birmingham proof marks (2)
