A Fine Cased 40-Bore Five-Shot Percussion Pepperbox Revolver
By J.W. Edge, Manchester, Circa 1850

With fluted case-hardened barrels engraved around the muzzles and breeches, rounded case-hardened action finely engraved with scrolling foliage and signed within a scroll on one side, nipple-shield decorated en suite partly against a cross-hatched ground, case-hardened foliate scroll engraved bar-hammer, blued thumbpiece safety-catch, blued foliate scroll engraved trigger-guard, blued trigger, finely chequered figured rounded butt carved with lines around the ovoidal pommel and with case-hardened butt-trap with hinged circular cover engraved with scrolling foliage, vacant silver escutcheon, and in fine condition retaining nearly all its original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case (keyhole escutcheon missing) with accessories including Sykes three-way flask retaining most of its original lacquered finish, and case-hardened ramrod threaded for the powder-measure, cleaning-head and blued worm, the exterior of the lid with vacant circular brass escutcheon, Birmingham proof marks
