An Extremely Rare D.B. Flintlock Blunderbuss
By J. & W. Richards, London, Circa 1808-10

With two-stage brass barrels (some bruising) flared at the muzzles, engraved 'London' in script along the top flat of each octagonal breech, and fitted with a spring bayonet above, breeches and broad tang engraved with a line of beadwork, the latter border engraved and decorated with foliage, border engraved flat bevelled locks (one jaw screw replaced) each signed in script, and with engraved safety-catch and large roller, figured half-stock (fore-end chipped along each side) carved with a shell in relief behind the tang, chequered grip, border engraved bronze mounts comprising butt-plate decorated with a brace of gamebirds on the heel tang, trigger-guard with a hare on the bow, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, and fore-end cap also forming the ramrod-entry (ramrod missing, some wear and rust patination), London proof marks

Joseph and William Richards are recorded at 16 Staining Lane between 1808-10. They had a factory in Birmingham where Joseph carried on business alone between 1815-30
