With browned twist octagonal sighted barrel signed in full along the top flat at the breech, recessed at the muzzle and rifled with five grooves, the rifling in fine condition, engraved 'Patent No. 389 Gauge 385.' in front of the blued folding calibrated adjustable back-sight, and matted beyond to the blued replacement fore-sight, foliate scroll engraved case-hardened breech and earlier signed border engraved detented lock, the former with pierced engraved platinum plug, the latter decorated with scrolling foliage inhabited by a dragon, blued safety-catch, and foliate scroll engraved dolphin hammer, foliate engraved tang, America striped maple full stock carved with foliage on each side of the fore-end, butt with chequered grip and raised cheek-piece, the latter set with a piece of fluted white horn and a tubular pricker holder beneath a pierced and engraved silver star within an oval, mounts comprising silver side-nail plate pierced and engraved with foliage, hinged rectangular butt-trap cover engraved 'Philadelphia' in gothic letters and released by a horn button-catch at the toe, the mount pierced and engraved with foliage surmounted by a prone lion with a collar and silver tongue, an eagle perched on his head, the bottom flat and comb of the butt set with pierced and engraved brass, the former with running foliage, the latter with diamond-shaped flowerheads, curved butt-plate with faceted heel, faceted spur trigger-guard pierced with a small hole, silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, the former with owner's badge and motto, a baron's coronet above, faceted brass ramrod-pipes and fore-end cap, later ramrod, and much of its original finish, (standing peep-sight and sling mounts missing), London proof marks
