A Colt 1860 Model Army Percussion Revolver
No. 35389 For 1863

With sighted barrel with New-York address and contemporary dovetailed back-sight, rebated cylinder originally with roll engraved naval engagement scene, frame cut for a shoulder-stock, brass trigger-guard, rammer, rounded grips, the left (small repair) crudely inscribed 'Bob Allen, Co. A 144 Inf., 1863' and matching numbers apart from the back-strap (5901): in its contemporary leather holster (worn overall) (2)

Offered with a facsimile of a Colt Industries letter dated April 25, 1978, confirming that this revolver was part of an order of 1000 revolvers shipped to the Washington Arsenal on October 7, 1863

The 144th New York Infantry Regiment was mustered for three years service on September 27, 1862, with A Company principally recruited from Tompkins, Delaware County. The Company was attached to 2nd Brigade, Gordon's Division, 10th Corps on Folly Island, South Carolina, from August 15 1863 to January 1864. The regiment was honorably discharged at Hilton Head, South Carolina on 25 June 1865
