A Pair Of German Or Austrian 28-Bore Long Wheel-Lock Holster Pistols
Dated 1660

With two-stage barrels each struck with a mark 'P H', the letters divided by the date along the top flat of the octagonal breech, one breech struck with an indistinct mark on one side, plain tangs each retained by a screw from beneath, flat bevelled locks each engraved with foliage and a winged foliate female demi-figure around the spindle and retained by three screws each with white horn washer, enclosed wheel, flush-fitting sprung pan-cover release buttons each engraved with a flower-head, flush-fitting cocks each with internal spring and pierced and engraved with foliage and a dolphin, the jaws engraved as a monster's head, fruitwood stocks (minor worming and damage), the flattened rounded butts each with ovoidal pommel formed in three sections, the first two cut with broad flutes forming arches, and the caps engraved with foliage centred on a flower-head around the retaining screw, iron trigger-guards, triggers each with external spring, iron fore-ends bands and single ramrod-pipes (one loose), the latter turned and with petalled forward edge, horn-tipped ramrods, and most of their original burnished finish (some minor surface rust and patination) (2)
