A Fine Pair Of French 20-Bore Silver-Mounted Flintlock Pistols

With tapering two-stage russet barrels each with gilt lines and a gilt sun-in-splendour at the muzzle, silver fore-sight framed in gilt foliage, a bird above, and sighting flat each signed in gold and stamped with Cork, East Riding registration mark 'EC-1150', breeches becoming polygonal and each punched and gilt with rocailles and foliage, tangs encrusted with an engraved gold coat-of-arms surmounted by a pair of plumed hearts, signed border engraved flat bevelled locks engraved behind the pan with a crowned figure with a bird at his feet and a cherub holding a crown respectively, and with rounded tails chiselled with rocailles and foliage against punched gold grounds, cocks chiselled with foliage en suite and each with the head of the retaining screw chiselled with a classical profile bust against a punched gold ground, possibly representing Louis XV (one cock and both steels replaced), moulded highly figured full-stocks carved with foliage behind each rear ramrod-pipe and barrel tang, and inlaid with silver wire scrollwork heightened by silver pins, cast and chased mounts decorated in low relief with rocailles and foliage against finely punched gilt grounds and comprising shaped side-plates involving a Turkish trophy, escutcheons originally engraved with owner's coat-of-arms, a pair of inlaid engraved silver birds below, spurred pommels each with a differing profile bust of a Turk on the cap, trigger-guards with shaped finials, turned ramrod-pipes engraved with pairs of diagonal lines, and original silver-tipped ramrods (2)
