A Cased Pair Of French 40-Bore Percussion Target Pistols
No. 6668, Circa 1850

With etched twist octagonal sighted barrels each rifled with twelve grooves, foliate scroll engraved breeches and tangs each numbered '1' and '2' respectively, the latter each incorporating a back-sight, foliate scroll engraved detented locks, hammers and mounts, the last comprising shaped pommels each drawn-out to a flattened diamond-shaped terminal with baluster finial, spur trigger-guards, varnished highly figured half-stocks carved with foliage in relief against stippled grounds on each fore-end and with fluted butts, set triggers, and nearly all their original dull grey finish: in original fitted mahogany case lined in green velvet (compartment lid missing) with full accessories including flask embossed with a symmetrical design of foliate scrollwork on each side, the exterior with vacant brass escutcheon
