The First Indistinctly Signed Parisis Aix La Chapelle, Late 18th Century, The Second Mid-19th Century
The first in the French manner and converted from flintlock, with swamped octagonal sighted barrel, signed flat bevelled lock (action defective), figured half-stock with flat ovoidal pommel (pommel-plate missing), steel mounts comprising side-nail plates engraved with profile heads, foliate engraved trigger-guard, and trigger-plate with engraved vase of flowers finial, and set trigger (steel parts rusted, ramrod missing); the second rebuilt from flintlock, with sighted barrel, plain flat bevelled lock, figured half-stock (fore-end missing), chequered butt carved with foliage around the ovoidal pommel, steel side-plate, pommel-plate with suspension ring, and trigger-guard, and iron ramrod (iron parts with surface patination) (2)
