The Lock Signed F. Hilbert A Strasbourg, Mid-18th Century
With heavy bell-shaped brass barrel turned and moulded at the muzzle and engraved 'Edel: Fondeur a Strasbourg No. 1', long iron tangs above and below secured by two screws, signed flat bevelled lock with exposed trigger at the rear of the lock-plate, figured butt (minor worming, repaired behind the tang) painted '11/4' at the grip and on the right side above the stamped Museum of Artillery mark, iron butt-plate, and large iron loop on a lug beneath the barrel
