A Swiss 10.4MM Vetterli 1869/71 Model Bolt-Action Rim-Fire Military Rifle
No. 70710, Late 19th Century

With blued sighted barrel retained by three barrel bands (retaining screws missing from two), two spring-held, the forward one also forming a ramrod-pipe, folding adjustable back-sight at the octagonal breech and operating against a calibrated ramp, russet action and bolt, the former stamped 'Soc. Suisse. Syst. Vetterli', the serial number above, figured butt and partly chequered fore-end, the former painted '10/109' on one side, the latter enclosing the magazine tube, regulation steel mounts stamped with inspector's marks and including spur trigger-guard, sling loop (the other missing), and steel ramrod (some surface patination overall)
