A Fine And Rare French Field Gun And Limber
Early 19th Century

With bronze barrel of tapering three-stage form cast with raised and slightly hollowed mouldings, bulbous muzzle en suite, the chase engraved 'La Grifferie' within a scrolled banner, and the first reinforce engraved with the crowned coat-of-arms of the De Foucault de Jarze et de la Loe family, quartered with another, probably signifying a union by marriage, lifting handles each fluted along the top, knob-shaped cascabel, and plain trunnions: on original iron-mounted painted wooden field carriage with cambered spoked wheels, tapering block trail with elevating screw, and hooks at each side for ramrods, the limber en suite, the munitions chest painted 'CM4' on three sides, two sides with a crown above, the hinged lid covered in metal sheet (minor damage) with a locking catch at the front and also forming a seat with a handle on each side, and retaining two tools
