Of curved oblong form with rounded corners and broad central gutter, of wood lined with hide (the lower half an old replacement) extending around the outer edge, the front covered in gesso over canvas painted with a black eagle displayed charged on the breast with a white and black lozengy shield, all against an ochre ground covered with lighter dots and with a red border at the top, the interior with two original iron suspension staples and original X-shaped leather hand grip secured by iron nails
