A Rare And Unusual Continental Flintlock Tinderlighter
Mid-Late 17th Century

With border engraved iron box-lock body decorated with foliate designs and flower-heads, sliding cover to the tinderbox with spring-catch and decorated en suite, external mechanism and trigger on the right side, the cock and sprung faceted steel (slightly reduced) with chiselled and engraved foliate decoration, figured stock (minor damage) with rounded finial and inlaid on each side with steel wire scrollwork heightened with steel pins, the base with sliding staghorn compartment cover with spring-catch, and integral grip formed as a scroll of flat octagonal section inlaid with steel wire scales and pins
