A Continental All-Metal Miquelet-Lock Tinderlighter
Mid-Late 18th Century

Of box-lock pistol form and polished bright, the body of square section with deep circular pan, the latter threaded on one side for a wing-headed screw, ovoidal aperture to the tinder-box with hinged cover and pivoting ring-shaped catch, engraved external mechanism with cock of Spanish form, bevelled flat-sided butt indistinctly inscribed 'Lauren'(?) on one side, and arched bipod of two scrolled feet (minor surface rust)
