Mid-18th Century, Probably Dutch
With straight blade (some wear and rust patination) cut with slender fullers and double-edged towards the point, the forte on each side etched with a panel containing an oval between foliage depicting a winged figure in a boat above the inscription 'Si Je La Perd / Je Suis Perdu', a stag beyond on one side, and a hind on the other, hilt comprising quillon-block cast and chased with a trophy of arms on each side, recurved quillons formed as monster-heads, silver button, and green-stained spiral twist dark horn grip (Sinhalese?), the pommel carved in the round as a stylised lion's head with open mouth, the back with an open-mouthed grotesque mask
