A Very Rare Naval Officer's Presentation Sword
By S. Brunn, Sword Cutler To H.R.H. The Prince Of Wales, 55 Charing Cross, London, Circa 1800

With straight tapering fullered blade bright over half its length and double-edged towards the point (some pitting), the forte etched and gilt against a blued ground on one side with a martial trophy, crossed banners and crowned 'GR III' cypher, and on the other with a trophy of arms, crossed banners and pre 1801 royal arms and mottoes, all above a gilt panel on each side etched with a rocaille and foliage against a wrigglework ground, and with the bladesmith's details 'Joh. Fried. Raab Königl Gewehr Fabrick zu Hertzberg' along the back and around the bottom edges, the tapering tang etched 'Fried' on one side and 'P' on the other, regilt hilt comprising lozenge-shaped langets, the outer one engraved with a crowned fouled anchor in an oval, a crossed palm and laurel beneath, the inner one engraved with a naval trophy, flat rear quillon with waisted faceted point, knuckle-guard with slight central swelling engraved with crossed branches on each side and with a ring for a sword-knot at the top, coffin-shaped pommel engraved en suite and including a crossed sword and anchor, threaded gilt button, and flattened swelling grip bound with twisted silver wire, in original tooled black leather scabbard (some wear) with linear engraved gilt mounts comprising locket, chape and suspension mount engraved en suite with the hilt, the first signed in full on one side and with frog-stud engraved with a scallop shell on the other, and with two rings for suspension
