An Austrian Ceremonial Sword
Reign Of Emperor Franz Joseph I Of Austria, Late 19th Century

With bright broad double-edged blade of flattened diamond section etched along each side with scrolling foliage, 'FJI' cypher and a martial trophy, one involving a fasces, ormolu-mounted hilt comprising hooked recurved quillons with integral side-guard, the latter cast and chased with crowned Habsburg Imperial eagle beneath a trefoil cast and pierced with foliage, pommel formed as a crown on a faceted pedestal, and swelling faceted ebony grip set with longitudinal brass strips, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather (some flaking) with pierced gilt-brass locket and chape, the former with foliate frog-button
