With slightly curved blade (some pitting) double-edged towards the point and cut with a fuller along the back for most of its length on each side, hilt comprising shell-guard cast and chased with scrolled moulded borders involving a shell at the rear, and drawn-up at the front to form a lion's head in the round with long mane, silver grip with beaked pommel, and rounded figured wooden grips (one split, the other with small repair) secured by three transverse pins each with a domed silver head on both sides, double struck with silver maker's mark 'JB' crowned , a pellet between
