An Indonesian Bronze Lantaka, And A Portrait Of A Gentleman
19th Century

The first of characteristic form, in two stages flaring towards the monster-head muzzle with wide-open mouth, foliate ears and crest, the last forming a fore-sight, petalled, turned and moulded medial band, the reinforce with vacant bevelled plaque with clipped-in corners, raised touch-hole between the back-sight, turned and moulded tubular cascabel, plain trunnions, and peg-mount: on painted wooden plinth of octagonal section; together with a portrait of a gentleman, thought to be Captain James Shepley Shepley, English School, oil on canvas, unframed (2)
The first 136 cm. barrel, The second 91 cm. x 72 cm.
