A Rare And Unusual Persian Kard
19th Century Or Earlier

With finely watered single-edged blade with reinforced point of sharply pointed circular section, the back of the blade with three finely chiselled converging lines along its entire length and signed 'The work of Kal Ahmad' in gold-inlaid Persian script at the forte, the hilt retaining some blueing and decorated with gold-inlaid running foliage and stars within gold line borders, rounded ivory grips (one with split and small repair), and silver ferrule at the top forming the hinge for the pommel, the latter with 'eared' ivory scales, pierced silver suspension swivel, and spring-catch set with a cabochon turquoise forming a button, opening to reveal a slender kard with watered single-edged blade, gold-inlaid hilt with dark horn grips-scales (one split) painted with gold foliage (worn), silver mount at the top forming the hinge for the blued gold-inlaid pommel-cap secured by the pierced silver suspension swivel and opening to reveal a further smaller slender kard with pinned rounded ivory grip-scales
