A Turkish Silver-Gilt Mounted Shamshir
19th Century

With curved finely watered single-edged blade with shallow fuller over its entire length on each side, hilt comprising quillon-block chased with foliate designs against a finely punched ground in both sides, pointed langets, long tapering quillons with plain bud-shaped terminals, reeded silver grip-strap, and rounded horn grips, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather with deep border engraved locket and chape each embossed and chased on each side with symmetrical designs of foliated strapwork against a finely stippled ground, the chape involving bottles and vases of flowers, and foliate engraved swelling suspension mounts each carrying a ring for suspension (gilding worn overall)
