An Indian (Mahratta) Axe (Buckie)
19th Century, Kolapore

With robust slightly downbent triangular axe-blade with crescentic cutting-edge, block-shaped peen also forming the socket and surmounted by a tapering spike of square section, and decorated overall with silver-damascened foliage within double line borders, the sides encrusted with copper flower-heads, on original hardwood haft of circular section with turned spherical terminal and secured over half its length at the top by six transverse iron nails on brass florette-shaped washers
