A Dutch Hunting Hanger
Mid-Late 18th Century

With plain slightly curved single-edged blade, brass hilt comprising pierced quillons with rounded terminals, quillon-block chased with a bat on each side, separate downbent shell-guard cast, pierced and chased with foliage, and slightly curved faceted horn grip of tapering oval section retained by a brass floret-shaped washer at the top, in original wooden scabbard veneered in tortoiseshell with linear engraved brass locket and chape (suspension mount missing), the former with fixed ring for suspension
40.5 cm. blade
