A Silesian Wheel-Lock Tschinke Of Small Bore
Mid-17th Century

With swamped octagonal sighted barrel rifled with six grooves and decorated with punched designs of scrolling foliage retaining traces of gilding at the muzzle, mid-section and breech, long tang en suite, partly gilt baluster back-sight, characteristic lock with external mechanism and punched decoration, the bridle to the cock-spring, wheel-bracket and plate over the rear of the chiselled mainspring each retaining some gilding, the last with button catch for setting the sear, engraved and chiselled sliding pan-cover with release button, and pierced cock engraved with foliage and a profile grotesque-head, fruitwood full stock (minor repairs) profusely inlaid with horn scrolls and pellets inhabited by hounds, hares and grotesque monsters, an antelope on the underside, a running stag on one side of the butt, and on the cheek-piece with the figure of St. George and the Dragon, enriched overall with engraved mother-of-pearl ball-flowers, a squirrel and a hare, sliding patch-box cover en suite, white horn plates at the rear of the butt (minor replacements) engraved with hounds and hares, iron button and trigger-guard, the latter indented for the fingers, gilt trigger, engraved horn ramrod-pipes (rear one replaced) and fore-end cap, and iron ramrod
