A German 28-Bore Wheel-Lock Holster Pistol
Augsburg, Circa 1580

With two-stage barrel swamped towards the muzzle and struck on the blued octagonal breech with the Augsburg mark and maker's mark, a profile blackamoor's head in a shield, plain tang, blued flat lock, the edges left bright, struck with the same marks as the breech, and with sprung pivoting safety-lever with button finial, domed wheel-cover, sliding pan-cover with release button, and cock with chiselled spring, figured fruitwood full stock inlaid with foliate and scroll engraved white horn plaques including side-nail roundels, all within horn lines, and large ball pommel segmented by white horn lines and entirely inlaid with horn scrolls and pellets, a vacant white horn roundel at the base, foliate engraved horn trigger-plate, ramrod-pipe and fore-end cap, iron trigger-guard, iron-tipped ramrod, and in fine condition retaining much of its original blueing
