A German Circular Powder-Flask
17th Century

With turned rounded fruitwood body finely inlaid overall with engraved scrolling staghorn foliage within horn lines (minor losses), the front with central circular aperture and removable turned staghorn cover, the latter engraved with three roundels framing portrait busts of two ladies and a gentleman in contemporary costume, the spaces between engraved with scrolled strapwork, and centred on a dummy screw-head, the back with central vacant staghorn roundel engraved with foliage and scrollwork, turned horn nozzle with engraved sprung brass tap, and two iron rings for suspension
14.5 cm. diam.
