A German Swept-Hilt Rapier With Chiselled Steel Hilt
Circa 1600

With tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section with single fuller on each side of the forte extended on the ricasso, hilt of rounded bars comprising forward-curved rear quillon widening towards its tip, arms linked to three concentric outer side-rings, the largest joined at the top by a curved bar to the knuckle-guard, and inner guard of three later curved bars, associated heavy barrel-shaped pommel, and vertically fluted wooden grip bound with fine twisted steel wire between steel Turk's heads, the main bars decorated in low relief with scrolls heightened with silver lines and pellets
