A Brescian Cup-Hilt Rapier With Hilt Entirely Of Steel
Circa 1650

With slender tapering blade of stiff diamond section stamped 'In Solingen' within the short fuller on each side of the forte, the ricasso struck on each side with a mark, a wheel surmounted by a cross, the hilt with straight swelling quillons spirally fluted towards the tips and with button finials, knuckle-guard en suite, and compressed spirally fluted pommel with button, the grip diagonally fluted front and back, the cup with turned diagonally fluted border and finely pierced and chiselled with foliate scrolls, fruit, birds and flower-heads (minor scattered pitting)
