A bronze and white marble figural group depicting an engagement

the female figure seated on the marble bench, the male figure reclining and placing a ring on her finger, with roses strewn across the ground, each figure stamped GESCHUTZ, signed to the side C. KAUBA. fecit, 22.5cm high x 24cm wide

Footnotes

Kauba studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna before moving to Paris in 1886. It is widely believed that he then travelled to the American West where he spent much time preparing sketches and writing notes on the different people and scenes he experienced. On his return to Vienna he explored these themes through his sculpture and modelled many figures of American Indians, cowboys and Cavalrymen. He is famous for these studies, and romantic scenes such as the present group are more unusual.
