A tachi do tosei gusoku with an associated helmet

Edo Period, 18th/19th century
The russet-lacquered iron tobishi nari (hawk's-beak-shape) kabuto fitted with a five-lame kiritsuke kozane Hineno jikoro, to the front a simple silvered moon maedate. A red lacquered menpo with stiff hair moustache and chin tuft. The ni mai tachi do of fine quality with matching chu sode, shino gote and haidate mounted with kanamono of shakudo and gilt copper, the rivet heads all displaying the single arrow flight mon, probably the Mori family of Saiki in Bungo. At the top front and back of the do are three discs with a kanji of an invocation. The mune ita, waki ita and oshitsuke ita are lacquered with karakusa and the mon as are all the hishinui no ita on sode and kusazuri. A large gilt rinbo appears on the upper arm and on the haidate with the mon repeated on both. Laced overall in mauve kebiki odoshi. Together with an armour box and wood stand.
