Finely and vividly decorated in enamels and gilt with a continuous scene of numerous figures participating in a parade, the Yamaboko Junko in Gion in Kyoto, one of the most famous festivals in Japan, comprising musicians seated atop the ceremonial carriages draped with exotic, imported tapestries and fabric, some festival-goers carrying a mikoshi, others beating flaming drums whilst others donning shishimai costume are dancing, some holding halberds and poles to which are attached numerous gohei and other associated paraphernalia, signed Kyoto Ryozan with the Yasuda company trade mark and Satsuma mon. 24.5cm (9 5/8in).
