The reddish-brown bodies of both vases decorated in high relief with details painted in gold, one with a scene of Shoki, the demon queller, chasing demons in a cave set amidst rocky outcrop, the cover surmounted by an old man cradling a baby, possibly representing the story of Taketori monogatari, the other of Emma O, the King of Hell, in the accompaniment of other fantastical figures, the cover surmounted by a finial in the form of a young warrior seated on rockwork holding a quiver full of arrows, unsigned; both vases with en suite removable stands. Both vases 83.5cm (32 7/8in) high, both stands 18.3cm (7 1/16in) high. (8).
