Taisho/Showa Period
Decorated in the style of Taishin, one corner of the flush-fitting lid of the ryoshibako showing a cluster of fresh and old, broken, and insect-eaten bamboo leaves embellished in gold and black hiramakie in a variety of textures, the veins of some of the leaves highlighted in e-nashiji, on a natural-wood-grain ground, the design continuing over the lid and sides of the base; the suzuribako similarly decorated on the opposite corner, containing en suite fitted, movable trays for an ink-stone, a silvered metal water-dropper, an ink-stick holder, a spike and two brushes, unsigned; with two wood storage boxes. The ryoshibako 13cm x 37.5cm x 29cm (5 1/8in x 14¾in x 11 3/8in); the suzuribako 3.2cm x 24.1cm x 18.7cm (1¼in x 9½in x 7 3/8in). (11).
