A fine matching set of gold lacquer and silver-inlaid tebako (cosmetic box and cover), bundai (writing desk) and suzuribako (writing box and cover)

Meiji Period
The tebako and suzuribako with flush-fitting lids, the exterior of both embellished with superimposed ogi (folding fans), opened to reveal their differently decorated leaves of famous shrines, places and buildings in Kyoto set within landscape, in gold and silver hiramakie and iroe takamakie, with details of togidashi, kirikane and mura-nashiji on a dense o-birame ground; the design continuing over the lid and sides of the base, the imitation ribs and guards of the fans inlaid in silver, the inside of the writing box and lid lacquered in the same technique with a pavilion at the edge of a stream swirling through hillocks covered with pine within a misty Autumnal landscape, containing en suite fitted movable trays for an ink-stone, a water-dropper in the form of clustered pines in silver and gold inlay, an ink-stick holder, a spike, a knife and two brushes with nashiji holders and silver fittings decorated with karakusa, the undersides finished in nashiji, the rims of both boxes edged in silver; the bundai raised on four trefoil feet with edges also applied throughout with silver fittings engraved with karakusa, the scalloped inner edges also of silver; all unsigned, with three wood storage boxes. The writing table 12.1cm x 36.5cm x 63.5cm (4¾in x 14 3/8in x 25in); the writing box 5cm x 24cm x 27.3cm (2in x 9½in x 10¾in); the cosmetic box 14.7cm x 27cm x 23cm (5¾in x 10 5/8in x 9in). (14).
