Bearing an oki-birame ground, elaborately decorated all over in gold, silver and iro-e takamakie and hiramakie, enhanced by details in kirikane with motifs from the Hatsune (The First Warbler) chapter of the Genji monogatari, the cover with a gilt bird perched on gnarled branch of a plum tree in front of a bamboo fence, overlooking Genji's mansion, the interior and underside of rich nashiji, fitted with a silver mizuire in the form of overlapping maple and cherry, unsigned; with wood storage box. 25cm x 3.1cm x 8.5cm (9¾in x 1¼in x 3 5/8in).
