A roiro lacquer display cabinet

19th century
Constructed with shelves of varying heights and a cupboard with hinged doors, decorated in gold and silver hiramakie and takamakie with embellishments of hirame and nashiji, the top surfaces with a moonlit scene of a craggy pine and blossoming plum tree next to a shoreline with kiku, the raised edges pierced with rectangular openings punctuated by circles, the second shelf with a continuation of the design and enclosed on two sides with reticulated panels carved with matsukawa bishi roundels, the cupboard doors lacquered with pine and willow trees on rocky islands, the interior of the doors undecorated, fitted with a chrysanthemum latch and floret hinges, the lowest shelf decorated with a kidney-shaped oval design in silver lacquer with a floral-scroll border, the cabinet set on an apron pierced with shaped apertures; all edges dusted in nashiji and mounted with nanakoji hardware, unsigned. 32cm x 66cm x 40cm (12 5/8in x 26in x 15¾in).
