Footnotes
These dishes represent the best of provincial wares from the Timurid period, providing examples of intermediate ceramics between the extremes of court and domestic wares. Very little has been written on these transitional pieces, the first article on which was produced by Gerard Reitlinger in 1938, in which he labelled the group as "Varamin" wares, although there is no evidence for this attribution. Geza Fehervari discussed the group in Ceramics of the Islamic World in the Tareq Rajeb Museum (London, 2000, pp. 238-41), confirming dating to the 15th Century. For two dishes of this type decorated with fruits sold through these rooms, see Bonhams, Islamic and Indian Art, 15th April 2010, lot 202.
