A fine Kashan lustre pottery Bowl
Persia, early 13th Century, possibly AH [60]4/ AD 1207-8

of conical form, decorated in a goldish brown lustre with a central roundel containing a seated figure wearing an ornate coat against a scrolling ground with leafy vines, within two concetric bands of cursive naskhi scratched through a lustre band and painted on a white glaze, the exterior with a frieze of stylised kufic inscription, intact
17 cm. diam.

Footnotes

The inscriptions comprise: on the sides, a Persian quatrain, couplet and benedictory words; around the rim, a Persian quatrain and couplet, and dated: "the year....4"; around the exterior, a repetition of a word in kufic, perhaps al-baqa', "long life".
