A Kashan underglaze-painted pottery Cockerel Head Ewer
Persia, circa 1200-20

with pear-shaped body, strap-handle with knop thumb-rest, the mouth in the form of a cockerel's head with narrow elongated aperture at top, decorated in cobalt-blue and black on a white ground, the lower side of the body with a band of cursive pseudo inscription, divided into vertical segments, alternating with inscriptions and scrolling water-weed motif, the head with naturalistic detailing
