A Kashan underglaze-painted pottery Bowl
Persia, circa 1200-20

with wide flaring sides and cylindrical rim, decorated in black and cobalt-blue on a white ground, the base with overlapping roundels creating an overall design of a floral roundel, containing three depictions of gryphons with partial roundels with leopards in between, within scroll and cross-hatched panels; the exterior with band of cursive inscription scratched through a black ground, below a frieze of panels containing waterweed motif within paired lines
